This smooth red blend has a luscious texture, unfolding layers of dried fig, black cherry, and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is rich and rounded, with nuanced notes of caramelized brown sugar, toasted vanilla, molasses, and toffee. Delightfully sweet yet balanced, it pairs beautifully with barbecue ribs or smoked meats.
Barbecue Ribs with a Smoky-Sweet Sauce, served with Coleslaw and Cornbread | Flourless Chocolate Cake with Whipped Cream
The fruit for this vintage was sourced from five blocks on our landmark estate. The Malbec comes from Block 10 behind the winery, while the Petit Verdot from Block 17B in our Ranch Creek Vineyard across Tesla Road. The Cabernet Franc is sourced from Block 15 on Tesla Road and the Zinfandel on Concannon Blvd. Lastly, the Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from Block 7.
The vintage was marked by abundant rains that nourished the soils before a cooler spring and summer created a long growing season. The grapes matured at a slow and steady pace, until many varietals ripened simultaneously, prompting a compressed harvest that kicked off on September 13th, the latest start we've seen since 2011. One of the finest vintages in years, 2023 yielded superb fruit with great flavors along with concentrated and balanced acids at lower sugar levels.
