Wild Mushroom and Goat Cheese Tart with Thyme and Caramelized Onions | Duck Breast with Pomegranate Reduction
The grapes making up this blend were grown on our landmark estate in five different blocks. The Cabernet Sauvignon was grown in Estate Block 7, located directly behind the tasting room parking lot. The Petit Verdot in Block 17b is alongside the creek just East of Concannon Blvd. The Malbec is from Block 10 located behind the winery. Merlot grapes are from Block 17 and the Cabernet Franc is from Block 15 located on the corner of NW corner of the estate along S. Livermore Ave.
The growing season was consistent and mild. Signs pointed to an early harvest until a late August/ early September heat wave pushed ripening in some blocks, resulting in a quickened harvest pace. But September rain brought a sigh of relief, refreshing the vines and allowing more hang time for the remaining grapes. Overall, the result was concentrated and flavorful fruit, creating great acid balance.
