The Cabernet fruit came from our Estate Block 7 Vineyard. The deep, gravelly soils in this vineyard promote low to moderate vigor, encouraging the vines to produce rich, concentrated fruit. Water drains quickly in this soil which compels deep root growth for accessing water and nutrients found in the rich subsoils below. The Petite Sirah is from our estate Block 12.
March rains delayed bud break and the region experienced beautiful weather during flowering, leading to great fruit set. The mild weather provided an even growing season and longer hang time, allowing the fruit to develop more concentrated flavors. Yields were lighter than in 2018, but similar in bold flavors, fresh acidity and pretty aromatics.
