Our Captain Joe’s fruit was harvested from Estate Block 11 and Block 12. These blocks are on the north side of South Livermore Ave where it intersects with Concannon Blvd. The austere, gravelly and rocky top soil causes excellent drainage and low water retention which encourage roots to delve deep into rich subsoils to find nourishment.

After a dry winter the 2020 growing season began with typical temperatures and normal timing for bud break and f lowering. As summer progressed, there were some heat waves and we experienced poor air quality from the Complex Fires during the fall months. Fortunately, the smoke was not heavy enough in Livermore Valley to impact our grapes. The quality fruit produced

balance wines with great acidity although the yields were slightly below average.
